Brief:
Choose an object with a story to reveal, conduct appropriate research, and then write and design an editorial piece.
Process:
I conducted largely ethnographical research into the culture of my object, conducted using a survey of people's thoughts on the object, and historical research into the Derby Ram.
Since my research led me to look at Derby's folk history, I chose to write my editorial half as a ballad on the object - telling stories of a ram from Derby, a football team, a pagan god and an ornament from a high street shop.

I designed the editorial itself to reflect the design of the Derby Folk Festival, which is branding I'd previously worked on when at DCC,  to evoke the folk culture in the city.
After a few different attempts at my first piece of editorial design in my MA, for my final design I decided to use the ram’s horn as a simple illustration as a type of watermark on the page - and keep the whole editorial simple and stripped back, with the poem on one side and the editorial part of the text on the opposite page.
